THE WAY OF SAINT JAMES FROM MADRID

throught the Royal Cañada going to Segovia

- "It is important: ¡THE WAY OF SAINT JAMES FROM MADRID does not begin the first day of the track!: First, we have to devote time to study the route, topography, restaurants, accomodations, interesting visits, etcetera.   And prepare wellphysically, his bicycle and the luggage."

 DAY 1º

THE WAY OF SAINT JAMES FROM MADRID

- "Segovia is not far from Madrid... ¡but the two cities are separated by the mountains of the Central Cordillera, The Guadarrama Mountains!.    As we just started THE WAY, we think is better to take it easy and give us two days; we will arrive to Segovia tomorrow at midday and we will have time to relax, stroll and adjust the bike after the first effort...  Today we approach the Guadarrama mountains. Nothing more."

We exit Madrid early in the morning, at 09.00 h., more of less...   Our first visit is to the church of Santiago and San Juan for to take our "compostelana", our "official passport of The Way of Saint James". Them, going up to Castilla square throughout Castellana avenue and Fuencarral district, had to make a first stop off for a first coffee in the "El Ninot", the exit at north of Fuencarral. We left Madrid throughout the cyclist way of the highway of Colmenar until the village of Tres Cantos, 23 kms. far of our start point in Santa Ana square, this morning. There we leave the "cyclist way" going left by dirt roads that follow the stream of La Tejada to Colmenar Viejo. Another stop off to rest in town square. By mid-morning we headed north on the "royal cañada" (a track for animals, property of the King) of Segovia. We cross the bridge of "The Batan" (a old mill for whashing of leathers) and arrived at Manzanares el Real, where we visited his beautifull castle and rest in his "plaza Mayor" (the main town square). Late in the morning we continue a little further until Mataelpino, where we stop for luch.

In the afternoon we continues another little until Cercedilla going up by Becerril and Navacerrada. One last "coffee" or "rest minute" in the square of Navacerrada, and ended the day arriving to Cercedilla in the sunrise.
