 DAY 3º

THE WAY OF SAINT JAMES FROM MADRID

- " This day is to follow the valleys of the Eresma and Adaja rivers, which connect the two old castilian capitals.  It is a long stage, with around 100 kms., essentially horizontal but with continuous slope and light unevenness.   Usually, we run fast and easy tracks with good surfaces. There are a few more difficult sections on shorts sandroads through pinewoods.  The landscape is open, clear, with little vegetation excepting the fields surrounding the old noble town of Coca, shaded by pine forests."

today we will start from the coffee-restaurant "La Concepción", opposite the cathedral of Segovia, at 09.00 h.  Everyone has slept in the accommodation chosen, to felt more on the go, or previously booked while preparing "The Way of Saint James from Madrid" at home.  We started goingdown the Eresma river valley to "La Fuencisla" district and goingup northward to Zamarramala. There you can take a second breakfast and leave Segova with the last pictures...  And we exit rolling through fields of the plateau northward.

The way is easy and pleasant soon in the morning. After an hour of pleasure goingdown to the valley of the river again, and get into the "green way of the Eresma river", recently built on the old railway of the train "Segovia-Valladolid", dis mantled for build the more modern railway of the new "AVE", the spanish high-speed train. Only we abandoned it for... one hour?, for to cut by Añe, Pinilla and Santa Maria la Real de Nieva. In main square of Santa Maria la Real we can do another stop midmorning. After this, we comeback to the "green way" and follow until Coca, where we arrive at midday.

We follow the valeys of rivers Eresma and Adaja for tree hours in the afternoon.  There are two possibilities; we can run through shaded tracks by sandroads into a pinewood that forces us to an extra effort, or we rode ours bicycles by the neighborhood roads until Alcazaren. There we go up one other time to the plateau, this time by his westside, and rode through fields planted with beets until Valdestilla. There, we follow 15 others kms. bay a road until Puente Duero, where we cross these river. Then, finaly, others last 15 kms. until the historical capital of Valladolid through the "bicycling-way" of the pine forest of Simancas. The best possibility it is to go directely to the "Plaza Mayor", the historical main square.
