 DAY 2º

THE WAY OF SAINT JAMES FROM MADRID

- "We cross the heart of Galicia. Everything is wet and green.  ¡How far are the lonely stubble fields of the Guadarrama Mountains, the violet moors of the old Castilla or the fogs of the mountains of León!. We began to yearn those solitudes, now that the pilgrims begin to abound everywhere, every kilometer more numerous."

We spend the morning going up and down troughout small streams and rolling hills with green meadows.  A little beyond Brea we find the landmark of the kilometer 100; while satisfaction we feel sad to see how is abused...  ¡Attention, you can find a herd of cows at any corner quietly!. And attention to their traces of poops...  With absence of signs, sometimes it is very difficult to know what village are you, because each group of houses are called differently. We must reach Portomarín to half morning, where we reste just a moment for a coffe. Then we have a long climb to the Cruceiro de Lameiros, in the mountains of Ligonde. The ideal is to get to eat at noon in A Eirexe. If it is achieved, the afternoon will be more pleasant; it is better go up in the morning, before to eat, and progress throughout this land broken between A Eirexe and Arzuá in the afternoon.

In the afternoon we have that style called "breaksleg" in cycling jargon;   They are continuos and short ups and downs.  If we want go out of The Way to visit the imposing castle of Pambre we must be alert to the signs between Carballal y Casanova; was builded by Sir Gonzalo de Ulloa in the XV century and was one of the survived of the rebellions in the Irmandiños against feudal lords.  Then, at dusk, we will pass through by Melide and we will visit "Casa Ezequiel", where they have won a good reputation in its treatment of the pilgrims.  Finally, we must try to reach Arzuá at sunset. ¡We do not mind that does not get, there is nothing amiss!; there are many pilgrims' hostels, local Inns, small hotels and accommodations everywhere in this part of "The Way of Saint James".
