 DAY 9º

THE WAY OF SAINT JAMES FROM MADRID

- "¡Today we have 30 kms.!; really we propose this stage like alternative to the posibility of arrival late in the afternoon yesterday, eventually."

Dawn in Arzuá: It is one of the oldest towns in this part of Galicia, near of Compostela. Its origins date back to pre-roman times.   It was named Vilanova. Less of a dozen of kilometer, overcome As Barrosas, Preguntoño y Calzada we must visit Ferreiros: As we read in the book "Historias Compostelanas", the head of the apostle Saint James had been stolen from his grave by Mauricio Archbishop of Braga, and brought to the peninsule for to be deposited in the Cluniac monastery of San Zoilo. Lady Urraca took it from there and carry it until the basilic of Saint James of Compostela for to curry favor of Don Diego Galmirez, the tutor of his son, the futur King Alfonso VII. Lady Urraca was stopped in Ferreiro and left the relic deposited there for some years before completing his transfert. We go crossing a lot of small villages; Salceda, Ras, Brea, Cerceda, Empalme, Ranta Irene... It is difficult to distinguish one locality to another, as followed. The more important one is Arca, although it is the union of several villages, Rua, Burgo, Picon, Pedrouzo and San Anton.  We are at doors of Saint James of Compostela. In the various smoll streams that are among Amonal and Lavacolla was where pilgrims traditionally was washed before go inside the city.  We go along the boundaries of the Lavacolla Airport grounds through a strong slope, on the other side down, one other small slope a little further... ¡and we reach El Monte de Gozo, "The Mount Joy", from which we see the idylic finale of our efforts, this so long pilgrimage!.

Everyone lives his own Way, each pilgrim is a different universe, everyone feels within himself his own particulates emotions at this time. ¡It is clear for us that it is worth!.  ¡¡Good Way, pilgrims!!.
